Nintendo Acapella

A friend sent me this link today: Nintendo Acapella. Talk about brilliant! It's amazing how certain video games have become cultural icons!

Nostalgia Gaming: DragonQuest

Amy and I were invited to play in an afternoon game of DragonQuest up in San Francisco. If you're not familiar with it, it is a role-playing game created by SPI back in 1981. Typical of the RPGs of that era, it was rife with terminology and complexity common to tactical wargames of the time. Still, we had a great group of players and it ended up being an entertaining game of lewd old men, lovely elven ladies, minotaurs and sheep. Lots of sheep.

Attack of the Killer Snails

Tharv vs. the Snails

"Slugs with good PR", Amy calls 'em. Yup, these suckers are everywhere. They mainly come out at night, leaving their little slime-trails across our walkway and drive-way. I discovered them rather by accident: I thought I stepped on a peanut or something, but alas, it was some poor snail who could not squip along fast enough to avoid death by shoe.

Now that we know they're there we try to avoid the little hard-shelled fellas, but it takes a bit of dodging and weaving down the walkway when we get home after dark.

There you have it folks; in Saskatchewan we have gophers everywhere, here we have... snails. How very Californian.

Monterey Bay Aquarium

View of Monterey Bay

Last weekend was a long weekend for me here in California. It was "Tax Day" last Friday (when American taxes are due), and my employers decided to give us the day off. Amy and I took the opportunity to head down to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, just an hour away from San Jose. We spent most of the day there and the nearby Fisherman's Wharf area. All-in-all, quite an enjoyable day!

To Blog or Not to Blog

The main reason I decided to start a blog was because of the physical distance I have put between myself and the people I've known and loved for many years. When we do speak, I seem to be rehashing the details of my life over and over again. A better solution? A blog! So here I am, hoping that my verbal ramblings will help bridge the gap between me and my friends back in Canada.
